Maintenance Matters
Your fireplace is an appliance, and like every other one in your home, the fireplace has a life expectancy and will eventually need to be repaired or replaced. After a proper inspection and sweep, Ye Olde Chimney Sweepe technicians will walk you through what we find. Our team will always focus on sharing what we find, not a sales pitch. We do a lot of repair work, but our goal is to educate you on your options and then allow you to decide what is best for your home.
If you suspect damage in your fireplace system or it’s just been a while since things have been checked out, let us be your first call to identify and correct the issues! We have an extensive list of common problems that we inspect and correct to ensure your home is up to code and safe for your entire family.
We Make Repairs and Corrections to:
Hearth extensions and wall faces. This includes repairs such as cracks in the hearth, doors or screen damage, water intrusion, and more.
Fireboxes. We repair or replace due to corrosion, blower not working, unsealed or improper gas line installations, etc.
Refractory panels. Due to cracking or deterioration, missing panels, and incorrect panels that have been installed.
Doors and screens. Repairs are needed for doors and screens when we find corrosion, damage that makes them inoperable, missing gaskets, and more.
Dampers. These need to be replaced or repaired when there is corrosion, warping, difficulties opening, or any other problem that causes the damper to work improperly.
Log grates. If we identify a log gate that isn’t an approved after market grate, see that one is missing altogether or that is warped, we will recommend replacing the grate.
Flue systems. Common issues we correct for flue systems are glazed creosote, warping, evidence of water intrusion, among other problems.
Attics. We look for missing or improper fire stops, if the clearance to combustibles around the flue pipe are not met, missing insulation shields, and much more.
Roof or chase construction. If there is damage to the chase, a missing cricket, damaged chimney cap or any other problems identified, we will recommend repair or replacement as needed.
